ICTC’s Annual Fundraiser, The Wake Friday, March 12, 2010, 7-11PM Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum 453 Porter Avenue, Buffalo
Some say a wake should be a solemn remembrance of a departed friend. Others hold that it should be a lively celebration of that friend’s life. Still others see it as a convenient excuse to drink heroic amounts of beer and/or whiskey. Whatever it means to you is OK with us. All we ask is that you make a small contribution. And take it easy with the keening.
Join us at The Wake, where we gather to celebrate the passing of our fictitious friend, Ted N. Gaughan. It is our fondest wish that a combination of live music, good food, plentiful drink and delightful company will help you through this difficult time, all the while providing an appropriate memorial, including a Eulogy by Father Pat Keleher, Director of the Newman Center at UB, to the late Mr. Gaughan.
Proceeds of the party benefit the Irish Classical Theatre Company, an organization Ted would have approved of had he approved of organizations.
Come thirsty; your ticket includes free wine and beer all night. There will be plenty of fabulous food courtesy of The Gourmet Store, too. Mix and mingle with Ted’s “loved ones” and learn about his life and times. Free Parking for the event will be available in the Kleinhans Music Hall parking lots on Porter and on Normal. The evening’s continuous entertainment features live music with popular Celtic Folk Band, Poor Ould Goat. The band’s combination of rousing music and merry attitude has made them favorites, playing a combination of traditional and contemporary Celtic music, sea chanteys and spirited originals. Performing rousing pub songs and tearful ballads with accompaniment by a mix of guitar, banjo, bodhran and whistles, mandolin and bass.

The Valley Community Association will be hosting their 17th Annual “Old Neighborhood” St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 13th, 2010. Due to misinformation on an Internet website, a bit of confusion has arisen regarding the date of the parade. The website – www.saintpatricksdayparade.com - has confused the two Buffalo parades and has both dates listed incorrectly.
The “Old Neighborhood” parade will kick off at 12 Noon and will wind through the streets of the Valley and Old First Ward including South Park Avenue, Smith Street, Elk Street, Hamburg Street, and O’Connell Avenue. New groups are welcome to march and registration forms will be available after the first of the year.
For more information regarding any of the Valley Community Association’s St. Patrick’s Day activities contact Lori at 716-823-4707 ext. 4.
